We are in the midst of
revolutionary changes in India. Ever since the new central government was voted
to power there has been a sea of changes which we have being going through. The
Digital India Program was launched by our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in
September 2015.
The main aim of this mega initiative has been to transform our
country into a digitally- empowered economy. The government had approved
in the year 2015 the Digital India program comprising various projects worth
over Rs 1 lakh crore. These included projects to ensure availability of
government services to citizens digitally.
What Digital India is all about?
Digital India had
envisaged of connecting the entire country through broadband within four years
of its launch in 2015. As a precursor to this, national fibre optic network had
already been laid for this project. As a result a whopping 2,50,000 gram
panchayats were to be connected through optic fibres.
The estimated expenditure
for this mega project was likely to be over Rs 1 lakh crore, according to a
government source. The government has expecting investments worth billions of
dollars ever since the launch of this mega project.
What could be expected from this mega initiative by the Government of India?
The entire plan was to
offer five products including Digitizing India Platform, digital locker, a
national scholarship portal, e-Hospital and e-Sign. To help people associate
with government initiatives the programme was to have four apps like Digital
India Portal and Mobile app, MyGov Mobile app, Swachh Bharat Mission app and an
updated Aadhaar Mobile app. The telecom ministry’s plans projects to create BharatNet
in eleven States.
It also plans to set up Wi-Fi hot spots across the country.
This will ultimately lay the foundation for the next generation network.
The role of the state
governments to partner the central government as a part of this all important
project will be critical for ensuring success of it.
This is why the central
government has offered to make the state governments equal stake holders in the
entire exercise through cooperative capitalism.
What it means to us?
The several initiatives launched
by the Modi Government in order to create a "Digital India" indeed
bears proof to the fact that it indeed means business. With the government's
announcement of demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000/- denominations and
encourage online modes of payments, itself shows that we are indeed moving to a
cashless economy. So you need to make yourself ready to support this cause.
We
had in our previous blog titled Future of Cashless Shopping in India, stated
the importance of adopting newer modes of payments for shopping from now on.
Thus you need to go with the present trend, which is reduce use of physical
cash and transact by online modes instead.
So all in all in conclusion
we can say that we are now indeed in the midst of revolutionary changes. It is
true to bring about the change you may have to put up with some temporary
inconvenience. But ultimately in the long run such steps would indeed bear
fruit where we would indeed be a very digitally strong nation. To state up to
